1972

Memory:

I remember an Allied Youth dance in Fall of 1969, the night that I heard a siren coming from the west direction. My dancing partner and I had gone out on the front lawn and were commenting on how close it sounded. It was in the paper the next morning that the Western Hills Hotel had been gutted by the fire. Boy, was that a landmark. It was said that legendary movie stars such as the likes of Joan Crawford had stayed there once. When I was a tiny girl and we lived in another part of FW, my dad and my brother would drive me to toy stores in Ridglea and I would remember that hotel. When we moved to Ridglea Hills after my 8th grade year, I would see it everyday when Dad drove me to Monnig. It was a sad thing to FW when it burned in Sept.1969.
