Wednesday, June 9, 2010-I learned yesterday of the death of my homeroom mate and fellow North Texas Eagle, Carolyn Crouch. She was lovely and original. I did not know too many Heights kids all that well because I came into FWISD in my 9th grade year at Monnig after attending Castleberry schools and so many of the students had a long history of Stripling or Monnig and their feeder elementaries way back. I was sort of a fish out of water. Carolyn always made people feel welcome and that they belonged. I was impressed by her independence. She was her own woman and she wasn't going to let the dictates of following the crowd get in her way even though she did fit well in the "in-crowd". I had posted a comment "You go, Girl!" on Legacy yesterday and I later thought that it might have sounded a little light-hearted and shallow over the tragic loss that her family and friends are suffering over her early death, but then again , I was congratulating her on a life well-lived and served. What a great legacy she left. She was a Renaissance woman at a time when girls were told that they only had a few choices allowed them. She had accomplished volumes in her too-short life and I am saying it with great respect and homage that she was a great person who had a life full of service and caring for others, and also kept growing. May light perpetual shine on her. Majel Cooper of Houston
