Class Memories From 1970

In the spring of 1970 there was a rumor going around Heights of a place named Midget Town (MT). Could this be true? Who ever heard of a town of little people?

Finally one of our seniors volunteered to show us where this elusive town was located, his initials are S.S. Most of the doubters were athletes and cheerleaders; however, with the prospect of seeing a town full of little people, the curiosity grew beyond interest of the primary idiots (I mean suspects).

We met at the fieldhouse parking lot after 10:30 PM on a Saturday night. Dozens of cars were filled to capacity as we drove to the Rivercrest Golf Course. Seventy or more Yellow Jackets quietly crossed the golf course and walked north into a wooded area, down a steep hill, over hedges and through deep grass.

Then in the middle of one of the mansion's acreages was a small village with a gas station, general store, hardware store, school and some other small buildings. What we found was apparently an expensive playground or play city for rich kids. We had been fooled. But that wasn't the end.

Out of the darkness stepped an old man with a shot gun and he yelled at one of the invaders: "Hey, get out of here."

T.P yells back: "Who's gonna make me old man?"

I was fifteen yards away. When I heard T.P. say the words "Old Man", I thought to myself . . . Oh S_ _T ! ! We are in trouble now!

The old man fires the shot gun and T.P. falls to the ground.

Seventy five people start running every direction possible. I looked around and saw nothing but ass holes and elbows. I watched T.P. carefully to see if he was alright. Suddenly, he got up and started running.

Nobody in the group ran the same direction they came into the small city. They couldn't if they wanted. The night was pitch dark. Fear was at an all time high, and so was the laughter. Was this for real? Who was the old man? Are we in trouble? Did anyone really get shot? Eventually, we all got back to our cars, but in some cases it took hours as a result of our hurried departure from the MT. The truth was never revealed, but I always had a suspicion that the old man with the shotgun was one of our seniors who's initials were P.G. The mystery exists to this day. S.S., T.P. and P.G. never mentioned another word about MT.
It became one of my favorite memories to share with friends when the mood is just right.
